Who in Adelaide does sedation dentistry?

Have you ever felt like you would rather endure the pain of a toothache rather than go to the dentist? You’re not alone. It’s not uncommon for people to develop a phobia of going to the dentist’s office, and it may be so extreme that some do not seek any treatment at all.

In this post, we will suggest a procedure which is capable of taking your anxiety away- sedation dentistry. If this sounds good, it’s about to get even better as sedation can be used for many different procedures, ranging from simple to invasive.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Just as the name suggests, sedation dentistry uses medication to help you relax during dental procedures. A less medical and easier-to-remember term is “sleep dentistry” or “twilight sleep”. Although you won’t technically be sleeping, it will make you feel like the experience was simply a dream!

Who in Adelaide does sedation dentistry?

At Adelaide Dental we understand the anxiety that many people experience before and during treatment, either due to a previous bad experience or simply out of fear. Because we are committed to treating you in a relaxed and comfortable environment, we have several relaxations options available:

Happy Air

Also known as “laughing gas” is what we generally use for minor or short procedures. However, be prepared for a euphoric or giddy feeling that can even bring on a laughing fit. You shouldn’t be surprised if by the end of it you start hugging those around you!

Sedative Medication

At Adelaide Dental we can offer a prescribed medication an hour or so before a dental appointment. The sedative will help reduce nervousness and anxiety, and can even be used for long treatments. Lasting around three hours, our friendly team here will walk you through the process.

Sleep Dentistry

Sleep Dentistry (IV Sedation) is completed at our practice under the guidance of an Anaesthetist Specialist. Under this sedation, you will undergo the treatment without needing to worry about what is going on or what has happened. We use this technique to induce a state of deep relaxation and safety during your dental treatment. Our goal is to reduce any anxiety or discomfort you may feel during the procedure.

Because the sedation is administered under the management of an Anaesthetist Specialist along with our dental team, the technique is safe even for young children who are apprehensive or require more complex procedures.

General Sedation (In Hospital)

Depending on your dental treatment plan, we may suggest general sedation. Once sedated under the care of a hospital (Western Hospital, Henley Beach) you will not be able to recall the otherwise scary procedure, not even a tiny bit!

At Adelaide Dental we understand that being afraid of the dentist means different things to different people. Some think that treatments are scary and painful, while others simply recall bad experiences from their childhood.

However, there are ways to overcome your fear. We are located in 3/51 Rundle Mall, and we take pride in being able to create a comfortable dental plan for YOU!
